Facing a long weekend of humid weather and intense competition, the Midwest United Kalamazoo 04 Girls Royal Team earned a point against Nationals Union Red on last Sunday. With the result, the team finishes on top of their State Cup group and advances to the round of 16 on September 30th in Saginaw, Michigan. After shutting out their two previous opponents in State Cup play, the girls found themselves in a battle against the Union Red team that managed to even the match up not once, but twice. The Midwest girls had several chances to win the game in the last 20 minutes, however fantastic defending and goalkeeping from the Nationals team kept the score tied after regulation.
The 04 girls began their journey as a Director’s Academy team playing in the Tier III group. After finishing on top of that division, the team moved up to Tier II and currently plays in the MSPSP Premier 1 division where it sits at 1-0 after a recent win versus the Kalamazoo Kingdom.
“I am extremely proud of the girls, their families, and our coaching staff. Over the last few years this group has gradually evolved into a very dynamic team. They have worked diligently and have dedicated themselves to setting a high standard at training and matches. The results they are experiencing are a direct reflection of their hard work, dedication, and commitment," said Coach Todd Wells.
The Team plays in the round of 16 on September 30th against Nationals Tri-County.
